Hello I adopted a 25 yr old grey and shes a plucker. Ive never had a large parrot before and im doing my best with her. Ive only had her for a week and shes letting me scratch her head now but will still bite everyone else in my home. She wont step up or come out of the vage but she talks a whole lot and will ask me to scratch when she wants to be petted. She sometimes looks like she is ready to take off flying when someone goes near her why is that? She still tries to bite me at times too. What can I do for her plucking some places shes re growing featgers and I want her to keep them. Any advice is great thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
A 25 year old will have more problems adjusting than a baby. She will miss her previous family and need time to adjust to yours. When they are afraid, the instinct is to fly away.
There are several people on the forum trying to deal with plucking. Some try bathing or spraying, using toys to distract, or not covering at night.
Since you have only had her for a week, let her adjust gradually. Sit near her cage and talk to her gently. When it is safe to do so, leave the cage door open so she can come out when she is ready.
Keep us posted on how things are going.

hey there. welcome. Haz has given you some good starter tips. I'd also add that you might begin thinking about her diet - start getting some fresh fruit, nuts & veggies into her food (some greys don't take too kindly to diet changes, but your persistence will be rewarded in the long run) Also, start offering her some distractions - like the inside of your toilet paper roll, to shred. Again, some greys don't take kindly to new things, so you might find yourself putting the new item on a table near to her, where she can see it and it stands there for a while until she decides it isn't going to do her harm.
Please tell us your stories of you grey. We love hearing about the newbies here.
What's your birds name?

Well so far we give her seeds twice a week every day she gets vegetables and her pellets and 3 times a week or so she gets fruits and random other treats. Shes letting me pet her already which im very surprised at but she doesnt like anyone else so far. Guess im the lucky one lol. I dont know if shes still plucking or not I havent really seen it she just stays in the corner of the cage closest to me and asks for a scratch.
