I just brought home my mother's 35 yo African Grey parrot that she has had for 34 years.Mom was not able to care for Coco any longer and this has been a huge adjustment for all of us. Coco lived a very isolated existence, and though mom spent very little time with her each day she adored my mom.Despite a less than optimal diet and very little stimulation, she never pulled her feathers out and never bit-until this move. As you would expect she absolutely hates change (she lived in the same corner of the kitchen for 20 years, let out each day for 30 mnts)We are adjusting her diet slowly and trying to keep up her routine as she has known it. My mom talks to her by speaker phone every day and that has helped as well.It was great to find this site as I am trying to learn as much about this new member of our household-we are now a family of 2 humans,2 cats,a dog and a parrot. We are looking for a therapist who works with blended families and makes house calls !!

Hi there and welcome! That is a very significant change for Cocco. It sounds as if you are off to a good start with learning about African Grey healthy behaviors and nutrition needs. So glad that you found us. Grant

Welcome to the forum.
It is sad that Coco has to leave her mom but at least she gets to hear her on the phone. In time, she will come to love you too.
If you need to ask questions regarding her care, we are here to help.
Keep us posted on your progress.
