Koba has been with us for exactly 1 week. I opened his door and he ventured out, briefly: (Well, I have a photo, but have yet to figure out how to upload it.) Yay, it worked!! Attachments:

Photos need to be on a photo-hosting site first before being inserted here. I use Photobucket.

Thanks, Haz.
Life with a new African Grey seems to be full of surprises! Koba burps and farts with all the enthusiasm of a boy. New toys that appeal to him don't seem to go through the "it eats little grey parrots and I'M a little grey parrot" phase before acceptance. In fact, I got Koba a 4' gym to play on when he comes out - and the bird was eagerly checking it out an hour later!

When Max was a baby, he wasn't afraid of anything. After a couple of years, he was afraid of new items.
When Chyloe was a baby, she was afraid of everything new even if it was identical to something she had before. These days, when I put a new toy in her cage, she is on it immediately.

Hi Haz not any longer, this forum allows direct uploads (see the right top corner just above the post that says "Add Attachment") dorothydot this is a brand new forum upgrade and we're all learning our way around it, haha! PS You'd need to be in "full editor mode" (which you can set as default in your profile)

I love the pictures. Koba is a beautiful bird. That is great that he is so adventurous. That must mean that he already trusts your flock. He seems very happy.

So cool... Koba just stepped up on my hand! Those tickley little feet felt so right there. Snowing outside, miserable birds at the feeders, and a cozy Koba dozes on his out-of-the-cage playperch while I knit, read and watch non-stop Perry Mason! Attachments:

Tee-hee! We had to put Koba in his cage, and he stated, "I don't wanna." Awww.

People have all kinds of reactions when holding parrots. Most people underestimate the weight of my guys and are taken aback by the nails. Younger kids will complain that it hurts. I love their feet. They are very cute to me. I just trimmed my guys nails today.
Koba sounds so cute. I am amazed at how far back they can remember phrases. Maui knows phrases that she hasn't heard in 18 years (her previous owners said that those phrases came from the ones before them who had a dog; she'll call a dog). You might hear new things at very odd times, when something triggers a memory in Koba.
How old is Koba?

Koba is 6. His previous owner had him for 4 years. Your Maui sounds very intelligent. We have had Koba exactly 2 weeks.

Okay, make that three weeks now. Koba has said a few really startling things! He called hubby a liar.
When we put him in the cage, he told us, "I don' wanna."
This morning he took one look at me and exclaimed, "Oh Lordy!"
Last night I was out at a bluegrass jam (ever hear of a harp playing bluegrass? Sounds terrific!) and dh was working at his table. Koba got tired of looking at dh's back and flew right on top of hubby's head. That sure got attention!
What a wonderful little clown he is becoming!
