Aphids

I have a beautiful large tri-colour Hybiscus plant. The double blossoms bloom red, yellow and salmon pink at the same time. Right now it has aphids (tiny white bugs). If it was warm enough outside, it would be out on the deck where I could spray it. The bugs go on the underside of the leaves.
Our main floor is open concept so we only have arches between kitchen, living, dining and family rooms so I can't spray indoors. I tried putting insecticidal soap on a paper towel and wiping the leaves but you can still smell the stuff in other rooms. After one use, I washed the stuff off as I won't risk Chyloe. The instructions say to repeat use as you actually have to hit the bugs with the soap to kill them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of the aphids? It will be a least April before the weather up here will allow me to put the plant outside again.

i use our dishwash detergent (sunlight liquid) mixed in 1:8 with water and spray the plant. i hate pesticides, and will grit my teeth until our Witoogies (Cape White Eye) birdies come visit who really enjoy chomping away on the aphids, and then, they sort the plague out

Well... not sure if it will on aphids, but by gosh, fruit flies!!!!! I mix a little apple cider vinegar, a little Dawn (dish soap) and some water in a dish. Fruit fly city. Maybe the aphids will find it appealing?
