I have heard that most odor removers aren't safe for birds. can anyone tell me what I can use to freshen up my house? I was useing Febreeze but don't think it's safe.

Yes, don't use any aerosol air fresheners or plug-in types. Febreeze has a bad reputation and although I believe it has now been reformulated I wouldn't risk using it. I don't use fabric softeners which contain it either.
I have heard about boiling up orange and lemon peels and cinnamon to make a pleasant smell but I haven't tried it myself.

Slice up some orange and lemons and put them in the oven to warm up then open the oven door . or after cooking when the oven is still warm stick a vanilla pod in with the door open. and open the kitchen window and the breeze sends the smell off round the house in no time.
