Can any one tell me if my 1 year old grey is healthy if i can feel his breast bone quite prominantly? he eats a ton of everything .. he is very active, im wondering if he is just burning it off. thanks in advance sandy

Hi! I had this problem with my grey and you might want to take him to the vet. When I bought mine she was already very thin, but I didn't know anything about greys. It turns out she had a bacterial infection that had gotten really bad. The infection was the reason for the weight loss, becasue she still had a really good appeitie. I don't know if I'm right but it is worth looking into. Good luck!

You should be able to feel the keel bone and also feel a good covering of flesh on either side of it but it shouldn't be really prominent. The skin over the keel bone is quite vulnerable to injury if a grey lands awkwardly.
However, you do need to get to know your own bird because they do vary. Monty has always had a more prominent keel bone than Mitzi. It is also a good idea to keep a record of weight.

Hi my grey was the same,Quite thin, We had trouble with her when we took her to the vet she had parasites (we had only had her a week from a baby 16wks) Got her the right treatment shes now thriving Hilary

Yes, I agree with the other posts, have you taken him/her to an avian vet? Ours is weighed every six months and once a year or so she does blood work just in case, to make sure everything is okay.
