It's coming along very slowly, but I'm making a little bit of progress. She normally doesn't let me touch anything but her feet, and that is only when she feels like it. But the other night, she did let me pet her head without nipping. But, that was a very special occasion because she hasn't let me pet her head since. But, I think that she is just a very cautious, and independent girl. I can tell she's comfy with me because the minute I walk in the door, she is on the perch closest to the cage door, lifting up her foot to step up. She is also eating extremely well now and usually right out of my bowl. So, I think that the touching will come in time... we will just need to keep working.
How is your sister?

yes, adele. How is your sister? I wouldn't dream of putting lucky into a harness - he'd just use it as an excuse for terrorism against the local birds! actually, he gets lots of "flight" time in my small house cos it's open plan. I just wouldn't trust him outdoors. He's far too smart. My lovebirds - black & brown - they also get flight time in the house and i fnd they are absolutely pooped after only an hour!

We have had a breakthrough. In the videos Manzi is grumbling as I am putting on the harness. That is the extent of his complaining, but I wanted Manzi to like the harness especially since I take him outdoors all the time to do flight training. After an outdoor flight training went quite badly the other day I decided to work on getting Manzi to actually enjoy the harness. Progress has been incredibly fast. The first day, I gave Manzi an almond (which takes a bit of time to eat) and proceeded to just clip the part around his head. He grumbled as usual but ate the almond. Afterward I unclipped it and gave him another treat. I did that for three days and on the third day he flew to me when he saw the harness and didn't grumble at all while I was putting it on. In addition, he didn't bite at it as I was taking it off. Greys adjust so quickly!

The breeder I am getting juliette from is doing flight suit training with her. Hopefully she will be used to it before she comes home. I really want to be able to take her outside with me. If she gives me a hard time I'll have to make her watch Manzi and see how good he is putting it on

Well my Justin is not a grey but I want to let you know that he ate a piece of popcorn while I put his new harness on him. He is just so funny I can do anything to him and he just sits and takes it all in. He liked being out with me too. Sue

I just love videos. Imagine trying to explain this with text. A simple video goes a long way.
Thanks.....good stuff

I tried the harness when I first got Ruby but she didn't like it so I did not keep trying. I would like to take her with me more often and I thought about getting one of those backpacks that are actually a travel cage. I saw a guy with one at a bird fair. It was really great and his McCaw seemed to enjoy the socialization and the openings were like tented screens so he had a level of privacy if he got scared.
I have just put off getting one because they are pricey and I am finding that she needs more healthy foods and toys more than the back pack. LOL.

Those backpacks are pricey. I think over $100. I have actually been using a leg leash more recently on Manzi. It is just the leash that comes with a harness, and then clipped onto the ring on his leg. It is a lot less cumbersome.

I bought the backpack and created a little customized perch. So far my TAG won't go near it but that's normal; it usually takes her half a year to get used to something (unless it's something bad she's not supposed to get near - in that case she gets used to it almost immediately lol).
I'll let you all know how it goes!
