I used to own a conure named Jesse. I decided to keep his wings clipped after a mishap he had. He crashed into a window, scraping the skin around one of his eyes. It scared me enough to make sure nothing like that would happen again. Jesse's present owners choose not to clip his wings, which really bothers me. They told me a "cute" story of how he startled the woman when he flew into the kitchen and landed on her shoulder while she was cooking at the stove. I didn't quite see the "cute" in this story, but the danger. What if he had misjudged his landing and hit the stove, or what if in her fright she had knocked him to the stove? I don't know whether this family has ceiling fans, but for Jesse's sake, I sure hope not.
I also think of my mom's childhood parakeet. He was killed when the door he was flying through slammed shut on him.
There's so many dangers a bird can get into flying around the house, that I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with them having full flight.

They are probably always on the alert in the wild. African Greys for example are shy birds preyed on by hawks and are especially vulnerable when on the ground. This is why African Greys in captivity are often very nervous of sudden movement, especially from above.
