Just aquired a baby 12wks old african grey parrot only had it for 2 days but as yet it has had nothing to eat and refuses to it is a parent reared bird so is very frightened how long can they go without food and what do i do please help

Did they tell you what sort of food it was eating before you got it? Try offering some soft food such as mashed banana or warm mashed cooked sweet potato or scrambled egg as this might be taken more readily.

i would do this but theres a problem when i go near the cage the parrot gets really squawky and stressed and we have been giving it the food the store was feeding it and we have also put like a bar of buts and honey what u can buy for parrots in there with it but as we did it flaps around and growls and squacks so shud i still try to put the mashed food in for it cos i only got it yesterday and im wondering if im just worrying over something that normally happens to newly bought parrots thanks for your help it is very appreciated

A parent reared grey will be much more nervous than a hand reared one. It might be best to stay away from the cage, just let it settle down.

how long shud i let it settle down for a few days and shud i continue to clean it out and put fresh fruit in its cage as normal? thanks for the help

Yes, clean it out and talk to it but if it is flapping around and frightened don't stay close to the cage any longer than is necessary. Don't make any sudden movements. Continue to put all sorts of food in, fruit and vegetables. This will be a process which needs patience. The bird will be very nervous of its new surroundings and you, so you will have to take things slowly and carefully.

we have had our grey for almost a week and for the first 2 days ,he didnt eat anything either but hes making up for it now.

Another thing. Even if your not trying to do anything to the cage, cleaning or feeding, always talk to them in a low sweet voice. Get down on there level. Being higher is usually a sign of a preditor. That's what I had to do with Jack.
