Hello everyone, My wife and I put a deposit on a baby grey today, just hatched. The breeder will not release the bird until fully weaned, she is saying about 4 months. This is fine by us and will give us time to prepare our home for our newest member. My only concern is we currently have a 2 year old quaker who is a wonderful family pet. However, his cage is never shut, he is allowed free reign in our "bird room". He is non-destructive and basically sit's on top of his cage all day. When we introduce the new bird, should we confine our quaker to his cage, or will this cause problems with him? I know the grey will have to be socialized to the quaker, so would it be better to leave the quaker like he is, and let the grey get used to him, or vice versa? Any help would be appreciated.

Congratulations, you have a lot to look forward to. I think it would be hard on the quaker to confine him to the cage as he is used to being out. Your baby grey will be in his or her cage when you first bring him/her home to allow him to settle, and you will be able to see how the quaker reacts and take it from there. The baby grey will be the "incomer" so should be easier to socialise than if it was the other way around.
