I found your forum while searching online, trying to help my Mother answer a few questions while she is deciding whether or not to permanently bring home a new Grey.
She currently has a little Green Cheek Conure, and has had him for 5-6 years now. Thus far, he has been the only bird in the house and has never had to share her attention. The African Grey that she is considering has been living amicably with a large dog and several cats, but we do not know if he gets along with other birds. One thing I am afraid of, is her current bird is very small... and one snap of the larger Grey's beak could seriously hurt him. I am wondering if anyone here has a Grey that lives with smaller birds, and how they get along with them? (not "live" in the same cage, but the same house and out of their cages at the same time?) I have read that Grey's are "Flock" type birds and need companionship, but I couldn't find anything that specified if they prefer their own breed to flock with, or are they safe with smaller birds, too?
Any help that you can give is so greatly appreciated! Mom is going to care for the Grey for a few weeks while the current owners are on vacation. I am trying to find a few things out in advance so we can make the most of this cohabitation, and keep both birds safe and happy!!
