I adopted 2 Greys, Misty and Nepper. They are approx 7 years old. They came from a home where they were loved, and there were quite a few other birds around. BUT, from what I could tell, it seems a medical condition kept the owners from paying as much attention to them as they had been used to getting in prior years.
I've had them for 6 months now. They took a long time to adjust to living here, but you can see they are happy. Nepper is a feather picker.He also shakes alot, like he is nervous.(but while he shakes, he comforts himself by saying "Its alright") Since he's been here, his tail has grown back,and his chest . His neck, he still pulls at occasionally. I realized I have to keep more entertainment in his cage , and he picks less. My concern is his wings. There are maybe 4 of the darker colored feathers that have grown back. But the rest have not. He looks like he is wearing a cape. I wonder if these feathers WILL grow back? There is no sign of him picking those loose. They just don't seem to be growing.
They are finally interested in coming out of the cage. Nepper will step up. Misty just gives me a dirty look and ignores the step-up command. My biggest question is this: I'm wanting to lock up the dog and cat, and allow the birds to come out of their cage, but with Misty ignoring the step up command, i worry about her trying to fly and injuring herself. And poor Nepper, with no flight feathers, what will happen if I take him out? Will he try to fly and end up seriously hurting himself?
I wants so much for them to be able to come out of the cage, as they are finally showing interest. But I also want them safe.

I also bought extra cage pieces and ran them all the way down to the floor so he can climb from the top to the bottom and doesn't have to jump or flap to the ground.
